What if One Small Shift Could Make You Five Times As Productive, This Week?

Without having to learn anything, using all the resources you already have?

So, we both know that you don’t need another system, another hack or another method. What you probably need is a different approach (but even we can’t tell you that, because we’re not you… you have to decide that yourself).

The truth is, you’ve tried a lot of things to help you do more of what matters. And maybe some of them have worked for a little while. But you still would like to improve some things. You don’t need another “50 ways to be more motivated” … you need a way to transform the way you show up, that allows you to use all of the powerful resources you already have.

Because we know that you already have everything you need. Right now. We’re going to help you become more productive than you ever thought was possible. But we’re not going to give you anything you don’t already possess. All you really need to do is to tap into the awesome power that’s already within you. Yes, it is within you, even if you’re not sure it is, or you’ve forgotten it.

What you’ll get from The Dojo won’t replace or complete any of the tools or systems that you already use, but what it will do is allow you to use them more mindfully and effectively. It’s kind of like how learning better coordination improves your use of tools you use with your hands. If there is a master habit, or master key, that unlocks the door to making all the other habits work, that is what we’d most like to show you. And hopefully, if you put the tools we’re going to give you into practice, that is what you’ll find.

Be willing to be surprised by how effective you can be, with these new insights you’re about to learn.

But If You’re Looking For More of The Same, You Won’t Find it Here

Sometimes it’s something small that creates surprising, unexpected, and powerful change. The Dojo contains lots of those insights.

Other times, you’ll need something bigger. And that might mean you need to transform something completely, and take on a whole new way of doing things (think caterpillar to butterfly). We’ll also guide you through this (kind of intimidating) process, so it’s a lot less scary.

Big and small insights, here are a few of the ways The Dojo is not the same:

  • Less is more – we only give you what works, that way you know the exact action to take right now, to make the biggest difference, right now.
  • You only need us to help you find the answers you already have – we are guides, not gurus.
  • We’re not releasing a product and walking away — you’ll get continued support, long after you’ve clicked “buy now.”
  • We are proud of our work and support it and the people who embrace it. We want you to know that we take pride in what we create and actually care about whether you’re integrating the material and getting the results that are possible for you.

We want to tell you a secret that’s actually not a secret at all… because it’s probably something you’ve known inside all along. There’s a reason that the tactics or methods we try to implement don’t work. That’s because it’s like trying to change yourself by changing your clothes. It only covers things up. It doesn’t deal with what really needs to be addressed on the inside.

The Dojo addresses the inside, the heart of doing what matters. Instead of hacking at the branches of productivity, we nourish the root of your empowerment.

And we’ll be up front about the fact that looking at yourself honestly can be scary. But we’ll be there to guide you through each step. And once you’ve done that, that’s when the really powerful and exciting results can start to happen. You may even be surprised by how your expectations are exceeded shattered.

We’ve walked this path, just like you. And if you’re ready, we’re here to walk it together again, with you, right now.

But you’re probably wondering now…

Why Is This Called The Dojo?

We didn’t expect to use the metaphor of The Dojo at first, but we were led to this path while we co-created this guide.

When we started working on this, we both sensed that people were wanting more in the way of how to actually do what matters and less in the way of the systems and hacks that weren’t working for them. We wanted to synthesize our talents and work because we knew that our efforts would be clearly better together than separately.

As we worked together, we noticed that our different styles both complemented each other well and stood in stark contrast. Charlie’s way was more grounded and fluid, while Jonathan’s way was more fiery and impassioned – but both ways have their place. We both had the feeling that our work together was like two martial artists with two different kinds of Fu coming under one roof to teach their art, so we started calling the project The Dojo. And this is actually true for us in real life, both of us practice martial arts in real life — Charlie, Tai Chi, and Jonathan, Jeet Kune Do.

The material you’ll read in The Dojo is all original content – neither of us have written it (which may sound weird, but it’s true), nor has anyone else. There’s no way we’ll be able to write it again because of the way it came about.

We started this journey with back and forth emails and conversations on the phone. Which naturally moved to individual written documents being sent back and forth. The back and forth halted the growth and expression, so we moved everything over to a Wave so that we could collaborate real-time and in a conversational way. At a certain point, we moved it to a Writeboard so that we could consolidate, streamline, and finalize everything that you’ll read.

The agility, openness, and intuition that the Tenets teach are the very things that brought The Dojo to life. Embedded in it is the excitement of it coming alive through co-creative unity. We may have had the fragments of the ideas separately, but the finished whole is greater than the sum of the individual parts that came with us.

We’re still at it, too – the words you’re reading here were written in the same way.

This Isn’t Theory

Much to our frustration, many people who write about productivity and personal development haven’t actually worked with people in those areas. How do you know if what you’re teaching works if you haven’t seen whether it works?

The lessons in The Dojo come from our lives, work, and practices. We have integrated these techniques in our own lives to powerful effect and our clients, customers, and friends have experienced dramatic changes, too.

In case you don’t know who we are, here’s a quick rundown:

Charlie Gilkey is the quiet but powerful polymath at Productive Flourishing. His work on meaningful action helps people harness their resources and do epic shit in the world. He has been formally coaching others on meaningful action since 2008. Charlie’s techniques are routinely featured on some of the biggest sites on the Internet.
Jonathan Mead is the rebellious fire-starter and rule-questioner at Illuminated Mind. He’s out to create a movement of people liberating themselves through living on their own terms. Through products and programs like Paid To Exist, Jonathan has been teaching people how to reclaim their dreams and make a living being paid to exist as their own authentic selves.

As you can see, we’ve been working with people for a few years now. We don’t just think the insights of this guide will work – we know they will if you practice them.

We’ve seen it happen over and over with the people we work with.

What Comes With The Dojo?

Another reason why this is called The Dojo because it integrates the material you’ll learn on your own with opportunities for personal training with us.

The driving force for The Dojo has been simplicity in presentation. We have distilled the material down to their essence – we don’t want you to have to wade through unnecessary content to get to the key ideas that will inform your practice and allow you to implement.

The written piece of The Dojo is a 39-page ebook that expresses the main principles of doing what matters. You don’t have to read it front to back, though, because each principle can stand on its own. You can jump right in, read the principle that calls to you, and start implementing and practicing right away. However, each principle is augmented by the others; as you integrate one, the others become easier to integrate, but each one adds synergy to the others.

The audio component of The Dojo carries this same flavor. You don’t have to read the entire ebook to learn from the audio. In fact, you don’t have to read any of it to start the audio sessions and get some value. You also don’t have to listen to them in any particular order. The audio sessions are short but powerful; there’s no need to schedule a whole bunch of time to listen to them.

You’ll also have access to the Training Call Library. For four months we had a call with early Dojo buyers on specific topics they wanted to hear more about. We hung out, we jammed, we answered questions–and we recorded every minute so you wouldn’t miss a thing. Here are the Training Calls you’ll receive:

  • Reinforcing the Seven Tenets
  • Escaping the Techno ADD Loop
  • The “Missing” 8th Tenet
  • Applying the Dojo in Business

As a recap, here’s what you’re getting with The Dojo:

  • A 39-page ebook that allows you to start and stop when you need to
  • 7 8 – 13 minute audio sessions (with transcripts) that discuss the key tenets in more detail
  • Access to the full Training Call Library with 4 full call audios

What people are saying about The Dojo

“No one needs more advice on how to get 50% more work done in a day. The key, as Charlie and Jonathan point out so clearly and elegantly, is to get the right work done while enjoying the process. I am an early and enthusiastic supporter of The Dojo because it helps me bring my very best work out into the world without drama. I wish the very same for you. We need to see your great work!”

—Pamela Slim, author of Escape from Cubicle Nation

“When a fighter enters a dojo, he is ready to learn something. But he’s also ready to take action and begin to fight. The Dojo Guide, much in line with this tradition, is not inviting you to remain seated for hours and hours, listening to the wisdom of a master. It invites you to join the teachers, hear their instructions, and then let them step back as you unleash the powers you always had inside but did not know how to tap into. This is at the same time the most uncomfortable and the best thing about this guide: It comes with no excuses to delay your personal fight to creating your own way of productivity.”

—Fabian Kruse

“I haven’t bought something this good — something meant to be used immediately, something so simple to learn and apply — in AGES”

—Megan Morris

“If you’ve spent your life developing your left-brain-directed thinking and you’re wanting to develop your right-brain-directed, intuitive and creative thinking and get stuff done without stress and internal conflict, then this is a good program for you.”

—Cath Duncan

“These are powerful, important concepts which do away with all the folder and inboxes and check boxes that productivity advice so often involves … and tackle the roots of taking meaningful action and living, playing and working in a better way.”

—Ali Hale

“The design of this thing is incredible! You can tell the amount of love and intention that went into this program, and that alone was enough for me to dive in and absorb the material. What I found as I listened and read was that it was more than applicable for me, but also that it could really help anyone who has a goal or a project that they want to undertake but never seem to get done.”

—Nathalie Lussier
